About the Oundle Festival of Music & Drama

Oundle Festival of Music & Drama is affiliated to the British and International Federation of Festivals   The Festival is a Registered Charity, Number 1013625.

Most of our classes take place in the buildings of Oundle School   We are very grateful to the School for their continued support over many years. The picture on the right shows the Great Hall, where competitions for choirs and orchestras and other large groups take place. It is also the venue for our final Concert, which takes place on the Saturday evening and is a showcase for some of the most enjoyable performances which have taken place during the week.

We welcome entrants of all ages to take part in our Festival. With classes for Music, Speech and Drama the Festival caters for a wide range of skills and abilities.

We pride ourselves at Oundle on running a well organised and friendly festival. Competitors travel from Hinckley, Boston, Grantham, Bedford and Dunstable as well as the more immediate towns.

The first Festival was held in 1909 to advance the education of the public in the Arts of Music, Speech and Drama. The organisation holds an annual competitive Festival with the educational element provided by professional adjudicators, who provide constructive criticism.

The public are invited to attend any of the competitive sessions for an entrance fee of just £1. Why not come and see what local talent there is on your doorstep and indeed give them your support? The Grand Finale Concert in the Great Hall is an opportunity to be entertained by competitors from all sections of the Festival.

The organising of such a festival is on-going throughout the year, and its continuance relies on a large number of volunteers as committee members and as stewards during the event. We are lucky in Oundle to have the backing of a wonderful army of helpers, but are always delighted to welcome more.

We aim to develop this website extensively during the coming year; we are investigating the possibility of providing an on-line schedule and entry facility for future Festivals, along with general information and historical archives. Please bookmark this page and visit us again soon.
